new look, better vibe

THE CITY OF GOOD LIVING
Located in the heart of San Carlos ~ widely known as the City of Good Living ~ this project centers on reimagining the cover design of the community’s living magazine to better reflect its refined, lifestyle ~ driven identity. The publication serves as a curated capsule of the city’s distinctive families, local businesses, and the elevated yet approachable way of life that defines the area.
OBJECTIVE
Our goal is to create a cover that visually embodies this balance ~ where everyday moments feel considered, and community is expressed through thoughtful design. Inspired by the rhythm of life in San Carlos ~ from slow mornings at neighborhood cafés to sunlit afternoons in local parks and vibrant evenings among familiar gathering places ~ the new direction embraces a modern and upscale aesthetic.
STRATEGY
Our design approach introduces a more refined, editorially driven aesthetic. Moving away from heavier framing, the new system emphasizes elegant typography, generous negative space, and a more natural integration between image and masthead. The result is a composition that feels effortless and elevated ~ capturing a sense of “quiet luxury” rather than overt display. Photography is given room to breathe, allowing authentic family moments to take center stage. Altogether, the update signals a clear evolution into a premium lifestyle publication ~ one that more accurately reflects the affluence, taste, and values of the San Carlos community.

LOGO DESIGN
We selected a typeface that feels both elegant and refined, while carrying enough weight to maintain a strong presence across a range of photography. The “L” subtly embraces the “O,” a visual gesture that reflects how San Carlos embraces its community ~ warmly, seamlessly, and with intention.
